Itinerary:

We start our Barcelona tour in the heart of the 'Old City'; the Gothic Quarter which dates back to the Roman times. Walk along the ancient city wall and see the remains of Barcelona’s early settlement, as well as medieval buildings and sights in the lesser-known Jewish Quarter.

Stroll through the narrow streets of the Born district and admire the gothic Santa Maria del Mar (Santa Maria of the Sea), considered by many to be the city’s most beautiful church, and an ultimate Barcelona sightseeing experience. Fishermen, nobility and merchants once lived together in this district and joined forces in the construction of this impressive building.

We continue our Barcelona walking tour to Montcada Street where large gothic palaces sitting right next to top museums like the Picasso and Textile Museum. Just next door there are some great bars like La Xampanyeria, a tapas joint. You’re likely to find yourself squeezed in with a bustling crowd of tipsy Barcelonans on their lunch break.

The area is renowned for its great mix of contemporary and traditional shops. One of the oldest is Casa Gispert, master roasters since 1851. You’ll still find the original oven toasting superbly tasting nuts, coffee and cocoa. Take in the special atmosphere and enjoy some of their traditional products as you take a step back in time during your Barcelona travels.

Above Born we enter La Ribera, a quieter district with few tourists and some very interesting places. See the art nouveau-style Palau de la Musica Catalana with its exuberant façade now housing all kinds of musical performances on this Barcelona walking tour. Nearby is the wavy-roofed Santa Caterina food market. Over time the 68 fresh-produce stallholders have retained their original signage despite the contemporary design around them.

Last but not least we wander to Les Rambles, a stunning tree-lined pedestrian mall as ou8r Barcelona tour comes to an end. The mall connects Plaça Catalunya and the Columbus Column at the Old Port. We end our walk next to Barcelona’s stunning Opera house, the Gran Teatre de Liceu.
