Itinerary:

Both modern metropolis and ancient citadel, Beijing is a city of contrasts and home to some of China’s most fascinating art and architecture. Here, history is mapped out in the streets, from its bustling hutongs to imposing Soviet-style monuments. Discover some of the most impressive buildings on this tour of Beijing.

After pick up and meeting your group and local guide pay a visit to a private museum. Here, you can gain insight into the traditional architecture and culture of this quickly modernising and developing city. Enjoy an early lunch at a local restaurant before taking a drive along some of Beijing's main roads, passing some of the new buildings that are redefining the skyline. See ‘the Egg’ (National Centre of Performing Arts) and the China Central Television Headquarters (also known to locals as ‘The Big Underpants’)

Learn about some of the new developments that are constantly springing up around the city. Arrive at the 798 Art Zone on the city's outskirts. Located in a former factory precinct, this area is now home to hundreds of galleries and is the heart of China’s modern art scene. Wander through the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) and perhaps some of the many other galleries if time permits. To finish the day, head back into Beijing and to the site of the 2008 Olympic Games with its spectacular Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube swimming complex.

These famous structures are even more impressive up-close, so wander around and take that perfect picture. Perhaps opt to end the tour here so that you can watch the Water Cube light up as the sun sets over the city. Otherwise, transfer back to Beijing, passing some of the city’s famous structures on the way.
