General Info | Photo Gallery | Traveller FeedbackKnown as “America’s Walking City”, Boston is the ideal place for a walking tour. However, instead of sticking to the popular Freedom Trail, your Boston Urban Adventures tour will veer off into some of Boston’s oldest, and most character-filled neighbourhoods. The West End and Beacon Hill have seen some significant changes within the community in the last few centuries, tales of which will intrigue you. By the end of this Boston day tour, you will have a true feeling for what it is, and was, to be a real Bostonian.
- Go off the beaten tourist path of the Freedom Trail and learn the intriguing stories of Boston’s old West End and Beacon Hill neighbourhoods.
- Indulge a little at Liberty Hotel & Bar as you hear tales of post-war Boston, and the characters that held communities together.
- Tour Vilna Shul, Boston’s deeply historic first synagogue.
- Go back in time and be immersed in the West End’s past, including former local farms, jailhouses, watering holes, and the seedy underbelly of the post-war community.

Itinerary:
This Boston walking tour begins at our Welcome Centre in the North End, Boston’s oldest neighbourhood. From there, we lead you away from the tourist trail and onto the back roads of Boston’s extensive and fascinating urban history.
A visit to the West End Museum will enlighten you on the pre-landfill project area, the “Last Tenement Building”, urban renewal, and post-war slums. Continuing the historical immersion, we continue to the Liberty Hotel & Bar – housed on the site of the Old Suffolk County Jail – where you’ll grab a small bite, and perhaps a drink, and learn about the seedy underground of Boston’s old jailhouses and watering holes. This is the side of Boston’s history you don’t often see.
Continuing with our narrative, this Boston walking tour visits the Vilna Shul, Boston’s first synagogue, and the city’s last remaining immigrant-era synagogue. A tour through this historically significant building will give you yet another local historical perspective on Beacon Hill.
Your Boston Urban Adventures walking tour ends back at the North End Welcome Centre, where you will return full of local knowledge, local experiences, and stories of local history that you won’t find on any old tour.

Tipping:
If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides and drivers a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this tour.
