Itinerary
Meeting at the Wheel of Brisbane, this Brisbane tour starts with a look at the Brisbane Cultural Centre, an area that includes the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Museum, and the State Library (or John Oxley Library). Find out what is on so you can check out some of the mostly free exhibitions.
Walk over the world’s largest tensegrity (balanced between tension and compression) bridge – Kurilpa Bridge. Head to the Roma Street Parklands and enjoy the world’s largest subtropical urban gardens. Take a stroll along the Rainforest Walk, and then continue on to historic Wickham Terrace, home to the original medical practices of the colony. Stop at the Old Windmill, the oldest surviving convict structure in Brisbane, and discover its interesting and busy history!
Board a local bus to Mount Coot-tha, learning a few more interesting local facts along the way. Arriving at the lookout, you’ll be blessed with panoramic views of the city and Brisbane River. After some photos, take a short bushwalk and learn more about Aboriginal art forms, and learn about their troubled history at the hands of early colonialists that continued well into the 20th century.
