After fitting you with a life vest (PFD) and getting to know how easy it is to use the pedal-drive system, we’ll set off to cruise Lake Burley Griffin. The direction we go depends a little on how the wind is blowing that day. On our slow relaxing circuit you will experience:
- Unique water views of the city’s national buildings, parades and avenue of flags
- The majestic background of Canberra’s surrounding forested peaks and mountain ranges
- The heart of Canberra, from Parliament House on one side of the lake waving to the broad ANZAC Parade and War Memorial on the other
- The amusing antics of the water birds diving into the lake for fish and ducking for cover in the reeds
About our kayaks: Thanks to millions of years of penguin fin evolution and a few smart guys at Hobie, the kayak pedal-drive system (or Mirage drive as Hobie calls it) propels you through the water with ease — using your leg muscles, not your arms. Our kayaks also come with the new very comfy adjustable “Vantage” seats. Add in a very stable boat design, fingertip rudder control, dry hatches to store jumpers, cameras, phones… and kayaking was never made easier. It is hands-free, and the easiest way to get around on water with human power!
Inclusions: Local English-speaking guide, pedal kayak hire with life vest (personal flotation device).
Exclusions: Drinks, food, souvenirs and personal shopping, tips/gratuities for your guide.
Dress standard: Bring adequate clothing for the conditions, especially to stay warm on colder days when out on the water. (Clothing can be stored in dry hatches on the kayaks). A hat (with chin strap to stay on if windy), some sunglasses, a dab of sunscreen, and a small water bottle are handy.
Expect to get your feet wet, up to about shin height, getting in and out of the kayaks. If you require it we can lend you some special footwear for getting wet feet and you can store your shoes or sandals in the kayak dry hatch.
If you bring your camera or phone on board the kayak, it’s best to attach a cord so you don’t accidentally drop it overboard and watch it sink to the depths for the fish to figure out if they can use it.
