Come hungry! This Guangzhou tour is packed with authentic flavours and tasty treats!
We’ll kick off our caper through China’s culinary kaleidoscope of Guangzhou with a walk down Duabao Road, to a small but famous local Cantonese restaurant. This spot is known for changfen (rice flour rolls), which they cook with a quirky signature method that you'll want to know more about.
From there, we’ll stroll along Enning Road, renowned for its Qilou architecture with colonial verandas and stylish faces. Your guide will discuss the government’s renovation plan for the old city, giving you some insight into modern Guangzhou infrastructure, before whisking you off to meet some craftsmen, who make beautiful handmade brass just as their predecessors have done for generations.
We’ll then head for our first dessert (yes, there will be more than one!) at the city’s most beloved dessert spot. Here we’ll grab a double steamed milk and ginger milk pudding, sugaring up your palate.
If you need time to burn off some of that food (and work up another appetite!), we'll give you a bit of a break from the snacks with a small history lesson. We’ll check out the Hualin Buddhist temple, which is over 1,500 years old and was built by a missionary who became the first patriarch of the Chinese Zen lineage. We’ll also visit the wholesale jade traders who peddle China’s most famous precious stones.
Setting off down Changshou Road, we’ll get back to the food scene with special noodles and the mandatory staple soups for which Guangzhou is famous. Dessert round two is up next with coconut, mango, and durian ice cream, which locals love. And if you want to get back to the savoury stuff, you’ll also have the chance to try fish skin and traditional steamed Tingzai porridge.
We’ll end our tour at the Liwan Museum where you’ll be free to explore on your own!
