Your multi-day Urban Adventures Kyoto experience will begin upon your arrival at the bustling Kyoto train station, where your friendly local guide will be waiting to welcome you and whisk you directly to your new home for the next few days. Timings will be discussed prior to your arrival — please contact us at email@example.com to confirm your arrival time.
As we travel, your guide will be happy to answer any questions you may have about Kyoto. We will provide you with day passes for the extensive and extremely reliable bus network, and explain how to get yourself from A to B. We’ll also give you the most up-to-date recommendations for food and visitor attractions, as well as insider travel advice and the latest tips on how to get the most out of your stay Kyoto.
After you have checked in and had some time to freshen up and meet everyone, we will take you to join your first group tour; Lanes & Lanterns is a deliciously atmospheric introduction to Kyoto by night. As we stroll around the city at dusk we’ll discover the buzzing Yasaka Shrine and explore Kyoto’s legendary night districts, lit almost entirely by traditional Japanese lanterns. We will make several fun stops to visit our favourite street food vendors, so there’s no need to worry about dinner afterwards — we have got you covered!
After a memorable and tasty introduction to Kyoto, we will return you to your ryokan to perhaps enjoy a traditional Japanese bathing experience. A ryokan is a classic Japanese guesthouse, offering a far more authentic stay than your average hotel. They typically feature tatami-matted rooms and communal baths, among other traditional features. Staying in a ryokan will give you a rich taste of Japanese tradition -- these inns have been a part of local culture since 700 CE! Although you'll be keen to explore your accommodation, we suggest you get some rest on your traditional (but comfy) futon so you'll be ready for an early start tomorrow.
The next morning, you’ll enjoy a Japanese-style breakfast before joining our Kyoto Cycling Tour for a leisurely 15-kilometre morning ride with your travel mates along the Kamo River, taking in magnificent views and passing a wealth of picture-perfect riverside restaurants. We’ll weave our way along quaint canals, stopping to admire the Nanzenji Temple and the Higashiyama Mountains before heading off down the gorgeously blossom-filled Path of Philosophy.
After a thrilling ride, we’ll return our bikes around noon. We recommend that you take a break to enjoy a well-earned lunch in the nearby Kyoto station area. We love the delicious ramen at Ramen Street on the 10th floor of the Kyoto station building.
After lunch, make your way to the meeting point just around the corner to join our City of Culture group tour. On this tour we’ll take in the city’s must-see sights, including the Tofukuji Temple and the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine. Here we will walk through snaking corridors of red gates, made famous by the film Memoirs of Geisha. Back in Gion you will have the chance to run into a maiko or geiko (Kyoto dialect for geisha) as we stroll past 17th-century tea houses, old theatres and artisan craft stores.
At the end of your cultural journey through the city, your guide will be happy to point you in the right direction of a delicious Kyoto-style dinner and perhaps recommend where to buy the best traditional souvenirs in Gion (there are many).
Throughout your entire three days and two nights in Kyoto, our guides will be on-hand to answer any additional questions you may have.
We hope that you have the best time ever during your stay, living like a local in Kyoto!
