Trip Code:XUHRAK Group size:Minimum 1, Maximum 12 Price:USD 65.22 Style:Local life & CultureEnjoy a walking tour through Marrakech’s medina and markets, an area unchanged for hundreds of years. Along the way pick up a memento or two. Afterwards, join the locals at a hamam for a scrub, massage and steam! An experience not to be missed on any Moroccan adventure.
Itinerary
Start your tour at Djemma el-Fna Square where at night you will find a hundreds of food stalls, acrobats, snake charmers and gnaoua musicians entertaining the crowds.
Visit the many souqs and medinas of Marrakech and explore the different industries. Mingle with locals selling fresh vegetables, herbs and spices and see the quarters of the carpenters, wood turners and dyers. There’s even a souq des babouches (slippers) and of course leather and jewellery makers. There’s plenty of opportunity along the way to pick up some handicrafts and practice your bartering as you explore.
Finally head to the hamam where you can experience the traditional Moroccan social custom of a weekly steam, massage and scrub. Undress and leave your clothes in a basket and enter the hamam with your attendant. The hamam has 3 rooms: one cool, one hot and one very hot. Spend as long as you can in the hottest room and then retreat slowly into the other chambers. Your hamam attendant will cover your body with sarbon (an olive oil paste) give you a massage before scrubbing and rinsing you down.
Your local guide will leave you once you've entered the hamam and can provide instructions on how to get back to your hotel or you can continue your shopping in the local souks.

Dress Standard
Morocco can be considered a liberal Muslim country as many Moroccan women do not wear headscarves, comparatively however, Morocco is very conservative by standards you may be accustomed to at home and you should dress accordingly. As a general guideline, shoulders, cleavage and knees should be covered at all times. Wearing shorts (men and women), low-cut tops, and showing midriff is not recommended as it will restrict your entry into buildings of a religious nature and family homes and is considered disrespectful to the local culture.
Long, light-couloured, lightweight sleeved shirts, trousers and skirts are respectful, cover your body, keep you cool in the heat and protect you from the harsh sun.
Tipping
If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides and drivers a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this trip.
