Itinerary:
Head below ground to explore the Russian capital and discover its wealth of secrets on this exciting Moscow walking tour. Prepare to be amazed as you descend into the underground metro system for the first time, admiring its rich web of networks, which span every nook of the city, and where no expense was spared by the Soviet authorities who first built it. Some of the city’s most impressive artwork decorates the walls of the stations, and on this Moscow tour, we’ll show you the best bits of the city.
After an hour spent whizzing about under the city – discovering the history, art and design interspersed with this engineering marvel – head above ground to the centre of the city. Step out of the underground and into a little known military bunker, which even many longtime locals know nothing about. Built in the 1950s, this fascinating location was mainly used by the military for ministerial communication and security in the case of a nuclear bombing, and a hidden Moscow sightseeing gem.
Now a museum, stroll through the tunnels where up to 600 people worked and lived until the end of the Cold War. Learn about this moment in Russian history, and listen to stories about the fear of nuclear warfare that gripped the country during this period. Leave the tunnels behind and refuel with a shot of Russian vodka and a snack, before ending this Moscow tour as you exit the museum and reenter the busy world of the modern day capital.
