Coronado isn’t really an island, but that hasn’t stopped people from calling it one! Could be a case of bad geography, or could just be because a trip to Coronado feels like you’re leaving behind the mainland for a dose of island living.
We’ll start our Coronado tour at the Santa Fe Depot trolley stop. From there, we’ll stroll to the nearby pier, where we’ll take a ferry ride over to Coronado. As we sail across the water, you’ll get great photo ops along with way, with views of the downtown San Diego skyline and the Coronado Bridge.
(Please note that the ferry leaves at 3 pm on the dot, so if you’re not at the meeting point at the designated start time, we will be forced to leave without you. We recommend you aim to arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes early.)
Once we arrive at Coronado, we’ll hop aboard local transit or take a leisurely 20-minute stroll through the neighbourhood to reach our next stop at Spreckels Park. This park is another great spot for photos, and has plenty of historical significance, which of course your local guide will tell you all about.
Fresh air makes us hungry, so we’ll stop for a snack break or late lunch here, and you’ll be free to taste some of the delicious options. Not sure what to try? Don’t worry, your local guide can point out the local spots and dishes that are loved by locals. We’ll gather for a picnic in one of Coronado’s unique parks and you can dine under that glorious California sunshine.
We’ll then stroll down to Star Park, where just a few blocks away you’ll find the Coronado beach and lovely Pacific Ocean, home to some of the most breathtaking sunsets you’ll ever see! You’ll also spot some intriguing green mounds on the beach — If you flew overhead here, you’d realize those green patches actually spell out the word ‘Coronado.’
Our last stop will be at the world-famous, historic Hotel del Coronado. If we’re lucky, the sandcastle sculptor will be working, and you’ll get to see his amazing ephemeral works of art.
The hotel is over 125 years old and is an American treasure, having hosted celebrities, dignitaries, and US presidents in its rooms. You’ll take a tour around the grounds, finishing up just outside the spectacular Crown Room (home to a luxe Sunday brunch). But before we say goodbye, we’ll be sure to take a group picture with this iconic Victorian building and all its west coast charm.
From here, you’re free to explore on your own. Your guide will make suggestions on what else to see and do, give you tips on where to eat and shop, and let you know the times for the next shuttle, water taxi, or ferry
