Itinerary:

Meet your local Tallinn guide in front of the Soprus Cinema to begin your Tallinn walking tour. The first stop will be at the Danish King’s Garden where you will be given an overview of Estonian history. Legend has it that this is the site where the Danes first received their national flag. From here you’ll continue on to the upper town, the feudal half of the beautiful World Heritage-listed Tallinn Old Town.

Take time to appreciate the Russian Orthodox Nevsky Cathedral, Toompea Castle, the city gates and the picturesque vistas from the viewing platforms. Continue this Tallinn tour to the bohemian suburb of Kalamaja. The wooden buildings of this district are being renovated and because of this the area has become a hub for the artistic and cultural communities of Estonia. You will see the factory where world famous Estonian pianos are built, and have a chance to shop for unique souvenirs in the station market.

Visit the cemetery in Kalamaja, and discover the tragic fate that it, along with several other Tallinn cemeteries, suffered during the Soviet period. Our Tallinn walking tour then heads back to the Old Town, this time to explore the lower section. This part of the Old Town is home to merchants and artisans.

You will have the chance to see many of the Tallinn sightseeing highlights including St Olaf’s Church, the Great Guild Hall, Fat Margaret’s Tower, and one of the world’s oldest continually running pharmacies. Discover what life was like for the citizens of the lower town, and learn why they built the tallest building in the world for its time.

Throughout the tour hear about the various legends and stories that have become part of the fabric of Tallinn’s history, including the story of Old Thomas, and the legend of the axe-wielding priest! Your Tallinn tour concludes in the Town Hall Square, the heart and soul of Tallinn in both medieval times and still today.
