Itinerary:
Meet your Tallinn guide in front of the Soprus Cinema to begin this fascinating look into Soviet Tallinn. On this Tallinn tour you will visit Soviet buildings and sights that played a major role in the history of not only Tallinn but the whole of the country. We begin the tour in a section of the Tallinn Old Town that was destroyed by a Soviet bombing raid, and will see the different styles of building that emerged in the early part of the occupation.
On our way out of the Old Town you will visit the KGB Headquarters with your local Tallinn guide, and learn about the horrific deeds that were performed here. Continuing on we come to Linnahall, the former V.I Lenin Palace of Sport and Culture, where we’ll enjoy great views of Tallinn Bay and catch a glimpse of some of the other sights we will see later in the tour.
The next stop is the Viru Hotel, which was the only hotel in Tallinn during Soviet times. Take the opportunity to learn about some of the amazing events that occurred in this hotel. We then board a local bus and travel out to Marjamae to see the Soviet War Memorial located here. We’ll also get to see some Soviet statues that have been stashed away out of sight.
Returning by bus to the centre of the city we will see the building that once housed Tallinn’s foreign tourist shop, where visitors could buy all kinds of western products that were completely unavailable to locals. You will also visit the former location of the Bronze Soldier, a Soviet statue that prompted riots when it was removed only a few years ago.
Finally we finish our Tallinn tour at the Museum of Occupations, where you will have a chance to cement the knowledge you have gained on this amazing Tallinn travel experience.
