Itinerary

Enjoy a wonderful day in the nature that is on Vancouver’s doorstep. Meet at historic Waterfront Station and take the Seabus ferry across to quaint Lonsdale Quay, where you can stock up on snacks for your temperate rainforest adventure.

Take a bus to Cleveland dam, where you can walk across the dam and immerse yourself in the tranquil temperate rainforest and enjoy a beautiful 45 minute walk along the Capilano River through giant cedars, firs and hemlocks. Cross the Capilano River canyon again and visit the Fish Hatchery, where you can see and learn about the five species of Pacific Salmon. Watch them jump up the fish ladder! Take the bus to Grouse Mountain, where you can choose to hike up the infamous Grouse Grind, an 853m (2800ft) vertical climb with 2,830 steps straight up the mountain.

This is a true fitness test! Alternatively, you can bypass the grueling climb using the Grouse Mountain Skyride and go straight to Vancouver’s mountaintop adventure centre! Year-round activities: scenic chairlift rides, wind turbine platform, full restaurant options, Theatre in the Sky. Summer activities are: Ziplining, paragliding, helicopter rides, Lumberjack Show, Birds in Motion, interpretive nature walk.

Winter activities are: figure skating, snowshoeing, skiing/snowboarding including rentals and lessons, sleigh-rides. After your day on the mountain, take the bus back all the way to Lonsdale Quay or stop at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, a must-see attraction right on the way!

Voucher Exchange details

Please present your voucher to the local guide at the beginning of the trip.

Your trip

Your guided trip will end on Grouse Mountain, where you can spend the remainder of the day doing a huge variety of activities to your liking. You can take the same bus (236) you took to get to Grouse Mountain to return to Lonsdale Quay and return to the starting point of the tour at your leisure.

Dress Standard

Please dress in layers and avoid cotton. Good footwear (Hiking boots or all-terrain runners), water and snacks are mandatory for the Grouse Grind. If you do the Grouse Grind, we recommend bringing a day-pack and a dry change of clothes that your guide will take up to the top for you.

Grouse Mountain is on average 6 degrees Celsius (11 F) colder than in the city. The weather can change quickly and a windbreaker/raincoat is recommended.

In Winter, prepare for full winter conditions and bring solid shoes, hats, gloves, etc. The rainforest walk is likely to be wet and water-resistant clothing and footwear is recommended.

Tipping

If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides and drivers a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this trip.

Children policy

Children under six years of age are not allowed on this activity. Total minimum distance walked for the trip is about 6 kilometres (4 miles). Trails are not stroller friendly.
