Go beyond the city centre and see a real cross-section of life in Yangon. Hop on the slow train for a unique Yangon city tour that will allow you to observe the lively and colourful happenings of the local urban lifestyle.
From our meeting point, we’ll head to the Central Railway Station to catch the circular train, a commuter rail network that services the Yangon Metropolitan Area. This 45.9 kilometer, 39-station loop connects several satellite towns and suburban areas, and is one of the best ways to discover the real Yangon.
We’ll be experiencing the entire three-hour loop with a pitstop at Da Nyin Gone Station to visit a lively local market. We’ll spend about 45 minutes wandering through the stalls, meeting vendors, and observing the local way of life in Yangon. You’ll learn about the commodities that are basic necessities for life here, and perhaps grab a coffee or tea from one of the local shops.
Our Yangon tour will continue as we get back on the train and head towards downtown to Pazundaung station. In Pazundaung, we’ll enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants, where we’ll participate in a favourite local pastime – people-watching.
After lunch, we’ll hit the road, walking along the busy local streets lined with bike repair shops, tire sellers, as well as vendors selling everything from betel nuts to Burmese buns. Before we finish our Yangon walking tour, we’ll pop into St. Mary’s Cathedral to see how it differs from the other churches in the city.
By now you’ll have a full taste of Yangon, near and far, including its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage, evident throughout the city and its suburbs. If you're looking for a more unique way to tour Yangon, we're pretty sure this is it.
