Need a quickie intro to the city? Toss aside your guidebook and instead get the Bangkok scoop straight from those who know it best: the locals who live here! This introductory city tour will give you an overview of plus handy info for your visit, straight from the mouths of locals – so if you want to make the most of your time in town, make this the first thing you do!
Join us for an orientation tour starting at the lobby of Nouvo City Hotel. From there, we’ll walk toward Samsen Road and the Thayvarat fresh market (also known as Talad Thewed). This market is not typically visited by tourists; instead, local Thais come here to buy food supplies — everything from produce to curry paste to meat (alive or butchered!). It’s also a great spot to find traditional snacks or desserts — opt for the lod chong (tapioca noodles), tub tim krob (water chestnuts in coconut milk), or ruam mit (tapioca, corn, and coconut milk), all sold by the kilo.
Along our walk, we’ll see the local nurseries selling flowers and plants, as well as important sites like the national Bank of Thailand, and maybe even watch as locals join in an aerobics class in Santichai Prakan Park. We’ll also get to enjoy a panoramic view of the Chao Phraya River.
Finally we’ll visit a local bar and restaurant that’s popular for its great views and cool drinks. We’ll settle in for a drink if you like (at your own expense but your local friend can give you some recommendations and tips on how to order) and you’ll be free to chat with new friends, make some plans together for later on, and ask any questions you like of our knowledgeable Bangkok expert.
Think of it as a city introduction tour, travellers’ meet-up, and info desk all rolled into one — get the tips you need to know from those who are in-the-know, then kick back and relax with some new friends in a new city. There’s no better way to tap into local life in Bangkok!
