Itinerary:
Depart Cusco at 9 am for the town of Pisac, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley on the Urubamba river. The Sacred Valley was very important for the Inca Empire, and the Incas built great citadels, scientific stations, and cities throughout this valley.
Pisac is a great place to see Andean life up-close and is home to a bustling craft market where the barter system is still an accepted method for buying goods. Explore the market and maybe barter for a few items yourself before heading out of town to a smaller community. Along the way take in the spectacular landscape of the region.
Communities in this area are still living in a very traditional way cultivating wheat, potatoes, corn, beans and quinoa to name a few. The region is home to 3000 varieties of potatoes and is essential to the Andean cuisine.
On arrival, we will experience a day in the life of a local community. Depending on the season and the activity on that day, we can be harvesting the fields, fishing, cooking, playing football, painting houses or school, building roof or teaching kids. The activity will probably be interrupted by the local “mamas” who will invite us to join for a local meal.
It will then be time to thank our host and visit the nearby Ollantaytambo archaeological site for an insight into the Incan past.
We then make our way back to Cusco, where our tour ends, through more incredible landscape as well as the stories and anecdotes that your local guide will share along the way.
