Itinerary:

Experience the real Delhi up close and personal. Join the city's commuters on the modern Metro Rail from Karol Bagh to Connaught Place. Make your way to Connaught Place A -Block opposite of Hamilton House Building where your English speaking guide will conduct a short briefing.

Begin by joining priests as they chant prayers at the Monkey Temple, Hanuman Mandir. This temple is one of the oldest Hanuman temples in the country and was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in the year 1724. One of the highlights of the temple is the 24-hour chanting of the mantra 'Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram', since August 1, 1964. This continuous chanting has even secured a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Travel local style as we catch a tuk-tuk to our next stop, the Birla Mandir. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the second of the Hindu Trinity of creator-preserver-destroyer, and his consort Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Built in 1938, it was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi on the express condition that people of all castes and especially untouchables would be allowed in. Continue to a Baha’i House of Worship affectionately known as the Lotus Temple due to its flowerlike shape. The temple was completed in 1986 and has won numerous architectural awards. A great place on our Delhi tour to take some cool photos.

Travel by private vehicle to Akshardham Temple in the east of the city is the next stop. The temple epitomises 10,000 years of Indian culture in all its breathtaking grandeur and beauty. The name, Akshardham, means the eternal, divine abode of the supreme God and the temple showcases India’s ancient architecture, traditions and timeless spiritual messages. Enjoy a local Thali lunch, an assorted vegetarian food platter. Our Delhi day tour then heads back to Connaught Place where the tour comes to an end. A transfer to your hotel can be organised upon request.

The Delhi Temples tour was well planned, well organised and an interesting introduction to the variety of religions in India. I particularly enjoyed Akshardam Temple and eating lunch in the canteen in the temple grounds. I would recommend this tour to anyone who would like to have an easy first insight into India's religious diversity.

I would highly recommend the tour to anyone visiting Delhi for the first time. Tour guide Pendry was very polite and knowledgeable; he made very helpful comments about the sites and about the gods and rituals.
