Explore Delhi’s best known temples as well as some that are off the tourist trails. Visit Hanuman temple, the Baha’i House of Worship and the Akshardham temple before enjoying a Tahli lunch. Travelling by tuk-tuk-, metro and private vehicle this is the ideal way to get an insight into India’s faiths.

Itinerary

Experience the real Delhi up close. Join Delhi’s commuters on the modern Metro Rail from Karol Bagh to Connaught Place. Make your way to Connaught Place A -Block opposite of Hamilton House Building where your English speaking guide will conduct a short briefing.

Begin the explorations by joining priests as they chant prayers at the Monkey Temple, Hanuman Mandir. This temple is one of the oldest Hanuman temples in the country and was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in the year 1724. One of the highlights of the temple is the 24-hour chanting of the mantra 'Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram', since August 1, 1964. This continuous chanting has even secured a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Catch a tuk-tuk to our next stop, the Birla Mandir. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the second of the Hindu Trinity of creator-preserver-destroyer, and his consort Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Built in 1938, it was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi on the express condition that people of all castes and especially untouchables would be allowed in. Continue to a Baha’i House of Worship affectionately known as the Lotus Temple due to its flowerlike shape. The temple was completed in 1986 and has won numerous architectural awards.

Travel by private vehicle to Akshardham Temple in the east of Delhi. The temple epitomises 10,000 years of Indian culture in all its breathtaking grandeur and beauty. The name, Akshardham, means the eternal, divine abode of the supreme God and the temple showcases India’s ancient architecture, traditions and timeless spiritual messages. Enjoy a Thali lunch, an assorted vegetarian food platter. Drive back to Connaught Place where the tour comes to an end. A transfer to your hotel can be organised upon request.

Your trip

This trip is offered on a "join-in" basis. Maximum group size is 12.

Dress Standard

Dress standards are conservative throughout Asia, especially outside major cities. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate.

Tipping

If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides and drivers a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this trip.

Children policy

Children must be 6 years of age to 11 years inclusively.
