Experience the diversity of Vietnam’s people on a special journey to the mountain village of Mai Chau. Here you’ll be invited into the stilt home of our local friends for lunch before setting off on a 3 hour trek. Explore beautiful scenery and discover remote, White Thai minority villages. Return to Hanoi in the evening.

Itinerary

Our trip starts with a transfer from Hanoi to Mai Chau, approximately 3 hours.  Our journey takes us from the hectic pace of life in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi to the clean air of the mountains surrounding Mai Chau valley.  We stop at a vantage point to take in the view of Mai Chau home to a variety of minority groups with their own unique culture and languages.   The break presents a great photo opportunity.

Upon arrival in Mai Chau we head to village of Pom Coong where our local guide will introduce us to our hosts for lunch and provide information on the region's people, their lifestyles, customs and culture.  Lunch is a traditional affair with examples of local cuisine on offer.  This is a great opportunity to really experience the local area, chat with our hosts and gain a real insight into local life in the area.

Following our educational lunch we commence our 3 hour trek through the area.  The people that live in the area are from the White Thai minority group.  We have an opportunity to visit a number of villages and learn more about their lifestyles, culture and customs from our local guide.  The trek is not overly strenuous however a good solid pair of shoes is recommended as we will be walking on uneven trails and up and down hills.   There are plenty of opportunities to take a break, enjoy the scenery, take some photos or just relax.

Our trek ends back at Pom Cong village with a chance to take a break and say a final farewell to our lunch hosts before climbing aboard our private transport for the trip back to Hanoi and a chance to reflect on the days unique experience.

Your trip

Dress Standard

Dress standards are conservative throughout Asia, especially outside major cities. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate.

Tipping

If you are happy with the services provided a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations.

Children policy

Children must be 12 years of age or older.
