Itinerary:
On this San Francisco city tour, you'll begin your afternoon sampling a fantastic array of local California foods housed in the historic and grand Ferry Building. From artisan cheeses and olive oils to confections and the freshest produce, we will have time to sample. It’s also an opportunity to meet the vendors who provide local specialties and offer tips on sustainable food practice.
A landmark that began operation in 1898, there’s also time to learn about the Ferry Building’s history and architecture while relishing the dramatic views of San Francisco Bay.
Afterwards, stroll through the city’s Financial District, and delve into a wealth of gold rush history to get the story on San Francisco’s rapid development as a world financial center, including the intriguing and quirky characters that made (and lost) fortunes. The Financial District provides a fascinating contrast of modern skyscrapers, historic 19th structures and intriguing commerce history.
Relax in a city center park to admire stately redwood trees and stand at the base of the Transamerica Pyramid, a towering, controversial, and iconic skyscraper. The park provides a welcome respite for local office workers and visitors alike.
Take break from the walk to soak up the city’s entertaining history while sipping a drink in a historic pub.
Continue on to experience the fervor that brought a flood of fortune seekers in a museum of San Francisco’s gold rush era and early banking. This fun and interactive museum includes a chance to sit “shotgun” on a stagecoach, view gold nuggets, and print personalized money. NOTE: museum closed Saturday and Sunday.
Leave behind the power and influence of the financial world for the art district known as SOMA (South of Market). Your pass by and get the latest information about a variety of museums, including Cartoon Art Museum, The SF Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of African Diaspora.
Finish the day at the magnificent Yerba Buena Gardens. A fantastic public space with lush lawn, inspiring sculptures, and fantastic views of the city skyline. At the conclusion of the tour, the park provides ample opportunity for others diversions with its skating rink, bowling alley, and several restaurants and bars.
