Culture shock rating
Worried we’re going to shock your senses? Relax! We believe part of the fun of travel is immersing yourself in the destination and its culture, meeting the people, and learning what makes the place tick. We’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The cultural shock rating ranks how different the experience is from most Western cultures. But no matter the level, don’t worry, you’ll have a local, in-the-know guide with you every step of the way.
Low
Consider these tours your 101 intro to a place. Transportation might be private or a very comfortable public option, and the activities are usually visits to iconic sites and locations that are familiar to most Western cultures – but that will still give you fantastic insight into a destination.
Medium
Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether that’s on a packed public bus or in a local market off the tourist trail. There might be a few language barriers or unfamiliar cultural customs, and you’ll get an experience different from what you're used to at home.
High
You're out there in the global community! We’re going to take you down streets you’d rarely explore on your own, introduce you to local customs and languages, and take you for a ride in whatever transport is available. Get ready to take it as it comes, whatever comes. There might be a shock, but oh man, it’s worth it.
Physical rating
Worried our tours are too tough? Relax! From leisurely strolls to muscle-burning treks, we’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The physical grading gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour.
Low
Slow and steady is all you need here. These tours have very limited physical activity, such as walking relatively flat streets, sites, or markets, and climbing in and out of the transport provided.
Medium
Not too hard, not too soft, these tours are just right! You can expect a bit of physical activity, but nothing overly challenging – perhaps walking up and down hills, riding a bike for up to 30 kilometers along mostly flat terrain, or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.
High
Get ready for a workout! These tours are our most challenging and involve intense walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, or bike riding. You could be making steep climbs by foot or pedal, or working your core in the water. We recommend you have a good level of fitness to join this tour.

This Total tour is a combination of two of our most popular Amsterdam tours, Everything you need to know about Cycling in Amsterdam tour and The Original Amsterdam Beer tour along with a very special boat cruise.
Your oh-so-Dutch afternoon of bicycles, beers and boats begins at the bicycle rental shop. Here, we’ll spend some time taking you through all the basic rules of cycling in Amsterdam.
Once you have mastered the basics we’ll put you to the test by taking a ride from the bike shop into the town centre and then on to a mystery neighbourhood where you’ll not only get to explore an area off the tourist trail but you will have the opportunity to put into practice everything you have learned, with your guide by your side in case you have any problems or have any further questions you wish to ask, such as how to swear at pedestrians in Dutch!
After two hours, we’ll drop off our rental bikes and go in search of the best liquid refreshment in the city, as the beer portion of our tour begins! We’ll stroll the beautiful streets of central Amsterdam, stopping in the downtown area to sample local brews and learn about the Belgian and German influences that have shaped the Dutch brewing industry.
We’ll also take a detour through the red light district to visit a small, popular brewery located within this infamous area.
Our final beer stop (on foot at least), is a legendary local beer haunt that has more than 200 different varieties of beer to choose from! Anyone who drinks beer will be amazed at the range on offer here. Choose to sip on a pale lager, gulp some bitter ale or sample a strong triple malt, the choice is yours!
Next up, its time to take your Amsterdam beer tour to the next level — on a very special, hour-long boat cruise that will allow you to admire our stunning city from its famous canals while you continue to enjoy the best beer that the city has to offer.
Your boat cruise will be led by an enthusiastic team of young entrepreneurs who are committed to sustainability (the boats are electric), safety and showing off their city!
Your tour will end next to a craft beer brewery and restaurant just across from Central Station. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for more tips on what else to see and so during your stay in Amsterdam.
Please note: Due to poor weather conditions during the winter months (Nov 29 – Mar 15), the bike portion of this tour will be substituted for a tram ride (tickets included) to the West of the city to visit a local bottle shop. We will also point out the Festival of Lights, a popular winter event in the city’s annual calendar.
