After fitting you with a bike helmet, adjusting your bike for the best comfort, and checking your desired route we will set off for your customised adventure.
Your trip could include:
- a relaxing circuit of eastern Lake Burley Griffin including the Jerrabomberra Wetlands (with an optional introduction to the birdlife) and Kingston Foreshore cafes
- a more adventurous trip around western Lake Burley Griffin and up to the National Arboretum Canberra with its spectacular Village Centre and hill top views – and the most scenic descent in all of Canberra!
- a nature discovery trip around the western lake including a short guided walk through the Australian National Botanic Gardens – from red desert gardens, past rock waterfalls and down through cool rainforest gullies
- a “get to really know our city” trip around the central lake area including less well known and fascinating outdoor artworks and stories from Reconciliation Place and the art galleries, and/or a trip to the National Museum of Australia – with lots of options for coffee or lunch at lakeside cafes and picnic areas on the route.
The capacity per bike trip is 10 people (aged 12 years+) plus up to 2 children aged 6-11 riding specially equipped adult bikes. We can also supply an electric trike for anyone unsteady on two wheels – for shorter trips only. For groups of more than ten people you could choose to go out on multiple bike trips in groups of ten from a lakeside picnic area.
We can meet you at your hotel. Or for a family or corporate group event we can meet you at a lakeside picnic area near a cycle path or anywhere else we can park a car and a big red bike trailer!
About our bikes: If you can ride a bike you can ride an electric bike. No licence needed! Our easy-to-use electric bikes make riding a breeze for all levels of fitness… so you can focus on what’s out there and not on the pedal pushing. All fun and no sweat!
We provide helmets, instructions and a chance to practice on the bikes before we set off. The bikes are equipped with comfy seats and handlebar bags for your phone, camera and other essentials. We stick mainly to cycle paths well away from the cars and take plenty of stops so you can discover the true nature of the city and take in the vistas.
Inclusions: Local English-speaking guide, electric bike hire and helmet.
Exclusions: Drinks, food, souvenirs and personal shopping and tips/gratuities for your guide.
Dress standard: Enclosed shoes or sandals are required for cycling. No open footwear or high heels. Bring adequate clothing for the conditions, especially on colder days. Sunscreen and sunglasses are handy on warm summer days. A small water bottle is useful but there are drinking water fountains on the cycle paths.
Canberra can experience some wild weather. We ride the tours if the weather is wet so do bring a raincoat and warm clothes. We also offer free use of raincoats, overpants and gloves to keep you dry, warm and comfy, but call ahead to check availability.
Your Trip: For your Urban Adventure you will be in a small group of a maximum of 10 people over 12 years of age and up to 2 children aged 6-11 years. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Confirmation of booking: If you have your voucher, your booking is confirmed. We'll see you at the start point. Get in touch if you have any concerns or require more information via the email address or phone number (business hours only) on your voucher.
Additional Information: Please note that toilets are available in Questacon and the National Library foyers, where we start and end the tour.
Closure of sites: Some of the sites on the itinerary may be closed by the government for special events or in extreme weather, such as high fire risk days. Alternative sites and routes will be offered in these circumstances.
In severe weather we may cancel the full tour if it is deemed too risky to ride. In this case we will offer to reschedule you on the next available tour, provide a credit for another tour, or give you a refund.
Child Policy: Children between the ages of 6 and 11 inclusively are permitted on this tour free of charge. Please select ‘child’ above when booking. IMPORTANT: Please note that we only have equipment for up to two children per tour (due to a limited number of special child attachments for adult bikes). Child spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You must notify us at the time of booking if you will be bringing a child so that we can reserve the equipment for you. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Children under 6 are not allowed on this tour unless a special arrangement has been made before booking.
Children aged 12 and older must be able to ride confidently and ride on size-adjustable adult bikes.
