Climb aboard a comfortable 8-seater passenger van with your local guide for a picturesque 45-minute drive to Canberra’s southwest, crossing the mighty Murrumbidgee River and venturing into the mountains beyond. Your local guide will introduce you to this beautiful mountain region, its history and its natural and cultural significance and will be happy to answer any questions you have during the drive.
We will take a short break to stretch our legs at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve Visitor Centre; here you can enjoy a coffee or a cool drink or maybe explore the gift shop. A 10-minute drive will transport us to the predator-proof sanctuary deep inside the park where your guided wildlife walk will begin. The walks are suitable for everyone (i.e., they’re flat and suitable for all weather) and the boardwalk sections will take you across dreamy wetland lagoons.
You can choose to walk a little, or a lot, it’s up to you. We offer a short guided walk (about 250 metres) to see the koalas, wallabies and other wildlife close to the sanctuary carpark or, equipped with a map and a pair of binoculars provided by your guide, you can set off on a longer self-guided walk along the well-signposted paths in the sanctuary to spot more wildlife.
After the wildlife walks, it’s time to ‘ride with the 'roos!’ After donning your helmet, we’ll spend a few minutes getting ourselves acquainted with our electric bikes before setting off. The 5km ride back through the forests and past open grasslands are gentle and easy, as we will stay on the quiet internal park road. After spotting Australia’s most famous animal, we’ll head back to the Visitor Centre.
If you prefer not to take part in the e-bike ride portion of the tour, your guide can drive you to the kangaroo grazing grounds and the ‘lookout’ instead, where you can get up close to the 'roos and soak up the serenity of the mountains in the afternoon light.
Before or after visiting the nature reserve (dependent on weather conditions on the day), we’ll call in to visit the NASA deep space communication station where the huge antenna dish keeps us in touch with distant spacecrafts exploring our solar system.
We will then head back to the city, where we’ll be glad to drop you directly at your accommodation, as long as it is within 20km of the city centre. Please let us know where you’ll be staying when you book the tour.
Before you go, don’t forget to tap up your local guide for all the latest happenings in the city and for recommendations on what else to see and eat during your stay in Canberra.
Please note: In the event of bad weather that may prevent a safe e-bike trip, we’ll head over to the NASA Space Centre first for a longer visit to explore the displays about the planets, the Apollo moon missions and the Mars rover.
We still offer the guided wildlife walks in wet weather and provide raincoats and umbrellas as required, so please dress appropriately!
Inclusions: Local English speaking guide, transport to and from the park including drop-off back to your accommodation (if it’s within 20km of the city centre), park entry fee, electric bike and helmet hire, bottle of water, free use of binoculars and local wildlife guidebooks, use of raincoats and umbrellas if needed.
Exclusions: Food and drink (other than a bottle of water), souvenirs and personal shopping, tips/gratuities for your guide.
