Culture shock rating
Worried we’re going to shock your senses? Relax! We believe part of the fun of travel is immersing yourself in the destination and its culture, meeting the people, and learning what makes the place tick. We’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The cultural shock rating ranks how different the experience is from most Western cultures. But no matter the level, don’t worry, you’ll have a local, in-the-know guide with you every step of the way.
Low
Consider these tours your 101 intro to a place. Transportation might be private or a very comfortable public option, and the activities are usually visits to iconic sites and locations that are familiar to most Western cultures – but that will still give you fantastic insight into a destination.
Medium
Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether that’s on a packed public bus or in a local market off the tourist trail. There might be a few language barriers or unfamiliar cultural customs, and you’ll get an experience different from what you're used to at home.
High
You're out there in the global community! We’re going to take you down streets you’d rarely explore on your own, introduce you to local customs and languages, and take you for a ride in whatever transport is available. Get ready to take it as it comes, whatever comes. There might be a shock, but oh man, it’s worth it.
Physical rating
Worried our tours are too tough? Relax! From leisurely strolls to muscle-burning treks, we’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The physical grading gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour.
Low
Slow and steady is all you need here. These tours have very limited physical activity, such as walking relatively flat streets, sites, or markets, and climbing in and out of the transport provided.
Medium
Not too hard, not too soft, these tours are just right! You can expect a bit of physical activity, but nothing overly challenging – perhaps walking up and down hills, riding a bike for up to 30 kilometers along mostly flat terrain, or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.
High
Get ready for a workout! These tours are our most challenging and involve intense walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, or bike riding. You could be making steep climbs by foot or pedal, or working your core in the water. We recommend you have a good level of fitness to join this tour.

Hop aboard our comfortable passenger van with your friendly local guide for the scenic 45-minute drive to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve in the mountains south of Canberra. As we drive through the forests and farmlands, and cross big rivers, your guide will unpack the character of Canberra as the "nature capital" of Australia.
Arriving at the park we take a 15 minute break to explore the visitor centre and its animal displays. Here there are also rest rooms, coffee bar, and a gift shop full of unique Aussie animal momento's.
Venturing deep into the heart of the park to the wildlife sanctuaries it's time to begin our walks to meet the koalas, wallabies, and maybe a potoroo (a mini kangaroo) or two. Then head across to the wetlands to meet the waterbirds, turtles and keep a look out for the shy little platypus. Each of the two circuit walks is about 500 metres on the easy all weather paths.
By now the kangaroos and their joeys have woken up from midday siestas so its time for a short drive to the grassy fields and wander amongst the roos as they peacefully munch away. The small mobs of mainly female kangaroos are very friendly - so stroll up to a few metres away for some close up photographs, and perhaps spot a joey poke its head out of mum's pouch.
On the way to or from the nature reserve (depending on weather conditions and time of year) we call in at the nearby NASA space discovery centre where the huge array of dish antenna communicate with distant spacecraft exploring our solar system.
Our return to Canberra is by a different route - so you get to see more of the gorgeous rolling countryside, and maybe spot a wombat down by the river crossing. On the journey home your guide will be happy to provide local tips and advice on the best places to eat and other top spots to visit in Canberra as we make our way back to the city. We can return you to your accommodation or, if your prefer, to one of the restaurant precincts.
In the event of wet weather, we still offer the guided wildlife walks and can provide raincoats and umbrellas as required. We may modify the itinerary to spend more time in sheltered areas.
Please note that on very hot days with severe fire risk the authorities may close the nature reserve and in this event we have to cancel the trip and either try to reschedule to provide a refund.
