Your journey begins in central Casablanca in one of the city’s busiest squares. After meeting your local guide, we’ll head towards our vehicle for a scenic drive into a nearby neighbourhood. We’ll take the coastal road, passing Rick’s Café and the Hassan II Mosque and we’ll make a quick stop at the beautiful Casablanca corniche for a photo op and a chance to soak up some of that refreshing sea breeze.
We’ll arrive at the Al Alhidn Association headquarters where we will spend time learning about their ‘Widows Empowerment’ project, meeting some of the lovely ladies that the charity supports and having a go at one of the classes that’s on that day. These might include a cookery class or a sewing workshop.
The association does all kinds of wonderful things to help families in need in the city, including sponsoring orphans, supporting their education and providing scholarships for children in need. The Widows Empowerment project provides education and qualifications for women who have lost their husbands, enabling them to gain government-approved diplomas with which they can start their own businesses.
After getting an overview of the association and having ago at one of the classes, we’ll make our way to the home of one of the ladies who has gained her diploma in cookery and she is mightily talented, we can assure you! This lunch is the real deal, authentic, delicious home-cooked Moroccan comfort food, served up with love in a typical local home. We’d be surprised if this wasn’t your most memorable meal in Casablanca.
As we eat, we’ll share our stories and learn about our new friend and chef’s experiences with the association and how it helped her to thrive after the loss of her husband. It is such a privilege to spend time with these inspiring women who have managed to turn their lives around against the odds.
After a delicious lunch, we’ll say goodbye to our host and head back to the city. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for tips on what else to see, do and eat during your stay in Casablanca.
