Hungry? We hope so! This private tour has three equally important parts: the market, cooking and lunch. We start with a visit to the market, where we'll walk around the stalls, see local fruits and vegetables, speak to farmers, and learn about their products. Our goal is to pick the best items for our cooking experience: vegetables, fresh greens and maybe some cheeses too.
Next, it’s time to get cooking, which you’ll be doing in the kitchen of a typical Canarian house in downtown Las Palmas. To kick off the culinary creativity, we'll start with some wine and small starters and put on our aprons. Then together we'll prepare three delicious dishes: a hot starter, a main, and a dessert.
Recipes for our cooking experience come from local homes and local traditions and recipes we borrowed from friends and family. Dishes will vary depending on what is available at the market that day. One of our favourites is "mojo" sauce, which is made with a selection of herbs and oils. "Mojo" is unique to the Canary Islands and is served with anything from cheese to meats to fish — and you’ll be making your own!
Right from the very beginning, we'll get hands on, asking for your help and active participation. You'll get to cut, mix, and try to find that perfect flavour. We'll go step by step, making the main dish, dessert, and a starter for all of us to enjoy. There's almost nothing pre-cooked, so you’ll get to see the whole process of transformation from fresh ingredients to delicious dishes.
When the food is ready, we'll set the table, prepare our wine glasses and start sampling.
The highlight of this experience is the lunch itself when we sit around the table and sample the results. Remember, the typical Canarian cuisine is shared with a big family, a tradition we’re excited to share with you.
Now you know almost all of our secrets, so we encourage you to take home our local flavours and repeat the same recipes with your family and friends.
