Escape the touristy side of Las Palmas and discover its local and wild side on a private tour! Spend the day with a local learning all about some of the best sights the city has to offer along with some seriously hidden gems you won’t want to miss out on.
We’ll start your private tour with a visit to La Isleta, a local neighbourhood and nature park all rolled into one. First, you’ll get to know the history of the area and how this old fisherman's quarter has transformed into a vibrant, up-and-coming neighbourhood. We’ll also make a stop at Mercado del Puerto, which is one of the key shopping and socialising spots in town, and a great example of city revitalisation projects.
As we walk, you’ll get a glimpse of theneighbourhood and its small, colourful streets, and then we’ll head towards the coast to visit La Isleta nature park, a protected area completely unknown to tourists and loved by nature-loving locals.
You’ll be surprised at how the landscape changes rapidly, from a densely inhabited area to completely wild, moon-like terrain complete with cactuses and rocks. From here, we’ll walk down a long set of stairs to reach the rough coast of El Confital Beach and finally dig into a delicious picnic with some typical bocadillos (a type of Spanish sandwich) and locally grown fruits. While enjoying the food and the view of Las Palmas city from a completely different angle, we’ll chat about some of the main threats La Isleta is facing now and the most interesting eco-initiatives taking place in Gran Canaria.
You’ll also hear the story of La Isleta and how it has been changing through the decades, as well as what happened to La Isleta’s caves, why the area became a military zone, and what water sport it’s famous for. On the way, we might meet some passionate surfers, barbecue enthusiasts and fishermen, all frequent visitors to the area.
Finally, we’ll walk back to Las Palmas, this time along the coast, to see some stunning views of the cliffs, and the picture-perfect white houses along a palm-lined alley.
