Your tour begins with a stroll around lively La Lonja, the ancient fish market that used to be the main meeting point of choice for local merchants.
We’ll check out the neighbourhood, making our way towards the Hort del Rei, a medieval garden that once belonged to the spectacular Almudaina Palace, home of Mallorcan Kings.
Next door, we’ll spot the ‘Statue of the Slinger.’ Your guide will explain the history and the importance of these indigenous warriors, who were extremely popular among the Carthaginian and Roman armies because of their immense courage and expert aim.
Behind the statue, you will have the chance to take some pictures of the Arc de la Drassana, where the Muslim King used to have his private dock, connected to the palace when the main harbour was located outside the city walls of Palma.
As we stroll along the walls, we will discover one of Spain’s magnificent gothic masterpieces: our cathedral, La Seu. We’ll take a look inside and your guide will give you the lowdown on the building’s history, the centenaries sandstones, its famous rose windows and the controversial chapel of Miquel Barceló.
Next, we’ll hit the narrow streets, heading towards the Jewish Quarter and we’ll chat about how the Christian Conquest affected the Jewish community on the island.
At the Town Hall Square, we’ll stop to admire a 500-year-old olive tree before making our way to the El Olivar market, one of the most popular shopping areas in the city. Here we’ll find colourful groceries, fresh fish and world-class charcuterie. Be prepared for a beautiful opera of aromas!
Your Palma adventure ends with a small, tasty tapa accompanied by a glass of wine or beer. Before we go our separate ways, don’t forget to ask your local guide for more tips on what else to see, do and eat during your stay in Mallorca.
