Your tour will begin in central Melbourne and we’d highly recommend that you arrive early so you can grab yourself a bite to eat before we set off.
Your friendly driver-guide will arrive to pick you up and take you on a scenic 1-hour 45-minute drive to the hidden natural wonders of Phillip Island. On the journey you’ll learn about the island’s enthralling past and enjoy stunning waterside views of Port Phillip Bay and Western Port Bay.
Our first stop will be a heritage farm that boasts the first European garden in Australia. Here, you will be able to stroll around the lovely gardens and bygone buildings that once belonged to some of Victoria’s first settlers. And don’t forget about our favourite attraction, the super cute and friendly farm animals that call this place home. Interact with the pigs, sheep and peacocks and have a chat with the park rangers that patrol this area.
Back on the road, we’ll take a short drive over to a koala conservation centre where you’ll learn about the native koala population and have an opportunity to observe the koalas as they go about their daily business (in a responsible and sustainable way, of course). As you walk around their habitat, you may spot them picking eucalyptus. And don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for more indigenous creatures such as possums and snakes!
Back in the van, we’ll cruise our way over to the breathtaking Cape Woolamai, a beautiful beach that’s been popular with surfers for decades. Take off your shoes and dip your toes into the waters as you soak up the natural beauty of our favourite part of the island. Added bonus – we’ll arrive as the sun is just about to set, making it the perfect place to pose for a swoon-worthy sunset selfie.
Dinnertime! We’ll make a stop in the seaside town of Cowes where you’ll have some free time to grab dinner (not included). There’s a whole host of delicious options to choose from, including the local pub and an Italian eatery (your guide will offer lots of recommendations).
After a quick stop to admire the fur seals at Nobbies Centre, it’s now time for the pièce de résistance! Head over to the Penguin Parade and take your seat in the sandy amphitheatre (well, it’s the beach but the show you are about to witness is worthy of an amphitheatre) and prepare to be mesmerised by the island’s wild penguin population.
Watch as they slowly poke their heads out of the water, before scurrying across the sand to the grass where their nests are located. Once they leave the beach, we can follow them on a special elevated boardwalk as they waddle along.
When the penguins have scattered, we’ll hop back in the van to begin our journey back to Melbourne (please note that your return time is variable depending on the time of the sunset).
We’ll drop you back at our original meeting point, just a stone’s throw from Flinders Street Station, where you can make your way home via train, tram or taxi. Your guide will be very happy to provide assistance if you need it.
Before you go, don’t forget to ask for tips on what else to see and do during your stay in Melbourne.
