We start our tour in the Wilda district where the story of the Lech Poznan football club began. This is also where we’ll see some street art murals made by football fans. You’ll be introduced to the team’s history and background and we’ll talk about some of the team’s most famous players and the contributions the club has made to modern Polish football.
After your crash course in local football, we’ll take the tram to get closer to the city centre. But first, we’ll get some fuel before the game, in the form of the famous zapiekanka, an open sandwich usually topped with sautéed mushrooms and cheese. We’ll get ours from an iconic stand only known by locals, obviously.
Next, we’ll walk to the Jeżyce district to find a sports bar for a beer before we move on. We’ll be surrounded by all sorts of football super-fans watching various games. Meanwhile, we’ll discuss the team line-up, strategy for the day’s game, and league standings — all explained by your local guide, a lifelong footie fan.
Once we’re ready to go, we’ll take a tram, full of blue-and-white-dressed fans, to get to the stadium. Once we get there, we’ll have time to take a picture with a huge steam train (Lech was originally founded as a railway team) and make an optional shopping stop in the official club's merchandise shop in case you want to pick up some team gear to show your support.
With our blue-and-white outfits on and heads filled with football knowledge, we’re ready to take our seats at the stadium and see the intensity that goes into how the football club’s biggest fans show their unwavering support. Their choreography, known as “doing the Poznan” gets everyone revved up and excited about the game.
Your tour ends after the game but before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for tips on what else there is to see and do in Poznan. Your guide will also be happy to advise you on the best way to get back to your accommodation or some other central city location.
