Imagine a charming locale with majestic mountains overlooking a spirited sea, where locals skilfully navigate their traditional boats through the vast natural beauty of the place. All of a sudden you see a group of rowers come hurtling towards you and you hear the vague echo of the captain’s voice giving instructions and cheering them on to row as hard as they can.
Today you will join the rowers during one of their regular practice sessions. This is a unique opportunity; no other rowing clubs allow visitors to observe and join in with their practise sessions!
Your friendly local guide will pick you up from your accommodation early in the evening and escort you to the picturesque town of Pasai Donibane via private transfer. The port here is steeped in maritime history. It is very close to the French border and has played a crucial role in the development of industry, commerce and tourism of the region.
After an introduction to everything you need to know about Pasaia and the local identity, we will pass through the medieval town and you’ll see why the famous French author Victor Hugo fell in love with it.
Next up, the main event! We will visit the Pasai Donibane Koxtape Rowing Association. After meeting the team, we will spend some time talking about their profession and learning about the club’s history. You will even get to see how the team gets ready for action! See how easily the rowers carry their enormous boat onto the water while you jump onto the catamaran with a professional coach and guide by your side. We’ll follow the rowers and watch how precise and harmonic their movements are from only a 10 metre distance!
Your tour will end once rowing practise is over. We’ll take a private return to your accommodation back in San Sebastian Before you go, don’t forget to ask your guide for more tips on what else to see, do and eat during your time in Basque country.
