Culture shock rating
Worried we’re going to shock your senses? Relax! We believe part of the fun of travel is immersing yourself in the destination and its culture, meeting the people, and learning what makes the place tick. We’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The cultural shock rating ranks how different the experience is from most Western cultures. But no matter the level, don’t worry, you’ll have a local, in-the-know guide with you every step of the way.
Low
Consider these tours your 101 intro to a place. Transportation might be private or a very comfortable public option, and the activities are usually visits to iconic sites and locations that are familiar to most Western cultures – but that will still give you fantastic insight into a destination.
Medium
Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether that’s on a packed public bus or in a local market off the tourist trail. There might be a few language barriers or unfamiliar cultural customs, and you’ll get an experience different from what you're used to at home.
High
You're out there in the global community! We’re going to take you down streets you’d rarely explore on your own, introduce you to local customs and languages, and take you for a ride in whatever transport is available. Get ready to take it as it comes, whatever comes. There might be a shock, but oh man, it’s worth it.
Physical rating
Worried our tours are too tough? Relax! From leisurely strolls to muscle-burning treks, we’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The physical grading gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour.
Low
Slow and steady is all you need here. These tours have very limited physical activity, such as walking relatively flat streets, sites, or markets, and climbing in and out of the transport provided.
Medium
Not too hard, not too soft, these tours are just right! You can expect a bit of physical activity, but nothing overly challenging – perhaps walking up and down hills, riding a bike for up to 30 kilometers along mostly flat terrain, or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.
High
Get ready for a workout! These tours are our most challenging and involve intense walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, or bike riding. You could be making steep climbs by foot or pedal, or working your core in the water. We recommend you have a good level of fitness to join this tour.

This Total Day Tour combines two of our most popular San Sebastian tours: Basque by Bike and Grab Your Pintxo.
Your San Sebastian cycle adventure begins in the historic street of Reyes Católicos. After meeting your guide ad geting acquainted with your new wheels, we’ll try out our new wheels with an orientation tour, heading towards thhe historic Maria Cristina bridge, the bridge to be built in the city.
Next, we’ll glide through one of the city’s busiest and hippest neighbourhoods: Gros. Here, we’ll take time to mingle with the locals and we’ll show you where to find the best people-watching spots.
At Cataluña Plaza you’ll learn about life in the city, as you’re guide talks about the cost of living in this popular local neighbourhood.
As you cycle, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the Bay of Biscay and admire the brave surfers along Zurriola beach as your guide chats about the surf culture here. We wil also pass by one of the most important and controversial buildings in San Sebastián, Kursaal — which boasts of a glamourous history.
We’ll follow the contemporary Boulevard that separates the Old Town from the new part of the city and head towards La Concha beach, one of Europe’s most beautiful beaches where we’ll stop to appreciate the views. Learn why there are so many small trees in this area, and how a local legend connects San Sebastián with Japan.
The bidegorri bike path is next; we’ll follow the route along La Concha beach up to the palace of Queen Maria Cristina, before arriving at one of the locals’ favorite beaches in the city: Ondarreta.
From there, your San Sebastián sightseeing bike tour takes you to the end of the bay, where nature meets civilisation. Discover some Basque modern art before veering through one of the city’s oldest, most authentic neighbourhoods and toward a “secret passage” that connects two parts of the city. Ride through districts that show the many faces of San Sebastián, from the workers’ city to the aristocratic belle époque of the past. Follow the Urumea River back to the city centre, passing villas and bourgeois palaces.
You will have built up quite an appetite by now, so without further delay, let’s start the second portion of your tour, the pintxos part!
Do you know what a sagardotegi or sociedad gastronomica is? No worries if you don’t, your guide is here to give you the lowdown and some of the background as to why San Sebastián is one of the culinary capitals of the world!
Together we will dive right in and immerse you in the culture of pintxos bars, socialising Spanish-style and the art of creating the perfect small plate of food. We will take you to the bars where locals not only enjoy their pintxos, but also relax and meet with friends. Taste some of the most important flavours of Basque cuisine (including some dishes prepared by award-winning chefs), as well as some delicious local wines too. The pintxos we will present to you are the best reflection (we think) of modern Basque gastronomy, carefully preserving the heritage, tastes and flavours that he Basques hold dear.
Your tour will end in a Pintxo Bar somewhere in the Gros neighbourhood. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for more tips on what else to see, do and eat during your stay in the city.
Please note: As this is a combination of our two most popular tours, you may not have the same guide for the entire day but rest assured, whether you have one guide or two, all of us are passionate about our incredible city and we can’t wait to show you all that it has to offer!
