We love when we connect people with local experiences, so we just couldn’t help but share this story. After posting this video from last year’s Toronto Nuit Blanche, a lot of people were on the hunt for this year’s pop-up Juice Money jam. This unofficial open mic has become an annual highlight for many locals, giving passersby a chance to jam with talented local musicians and show off the amazing talent that this city has to offer. One lucky local, graphic artist James Babarinde, managed to track them down and shared this story with us:

“I actually just happened to stumble on them while walking through Queen Street with a couple of friends of mine.

I was immediately captivated by the energy and thoroughly enjoyed impromptu performances throughout the rest of the night. They played everything from jazz to blues to hip hop. The band is very talented. There were happy faces all around and it was great to see people jump on the mic or instruments. It made for very good singalongs.

I distinctively remember a moment when someone jumped on the mic, gave a brief speech and asked everyone to say ‘life is beautiful’ while putting their hands in the air. The crowd complied and it just encapsulated that whole experience that night.

Another time after a drummer had finish taking a turn, he had to leave and also gave a very short message and thanked them for being there and ‘making people happy.’

Please do encourage them to continue to do things like this.
It gives life to the city.”
