Some years ago, Radovan and Zuzana, a husband and wife duo from Slovakia, decided to quit their jobs and buy a food truck. In their very old Mercedes, they started preparing food and soon became so popular that whenever there was a farmers’ market or food festival happening, it just wasn’t right if they weren’t there. They’ve now become so successful that they started a small bistro in New Town, Prague.
“Having travelled for quite some time now, we’ve discovered we need a place to call home,” they say. “This is not to say we’ve given up on the truck, just opened the Salt’n’Pepa Kitchen — and now you can take a away a piece of our soul on a blue dapple plate or wrapped in butchers’ paper.”
Their burgers definitely are not the cheapest, but are absolutely worth it. Their options are pulled pork or pulled duck — both are amazing. (They also have a veggie burger.) Plus, all their food has a Slovak touch, which is appreciated, as Slovaks are our dearest neighbours.
Try their halušky (potato gnocchi with sheep cheese called ‘brynza’) — it’s fantastic! Or their brynza soup (a creamy soup made from the same cheese as halušky).
They open at 8:30am and serve breakfast, then from 11am to 2pm they offer lunch (on Fridays you can get any of their burgers for a discounted price), and anytime afterwards come for delicious and rather hefty dinner!
Follow them on social media with the hastag #justpriid — a fun combo of English and Slovakian (‘priid’ means ‘come!’).
What to order: Burger and any Slovakian specialities on the menu. And don’t forget a glass of their wonderful craft beer for a perfect combo.
How to find it: M. Horákové 462/22, 170 00 Praha 7-Holešovice. Take the metro C (red line) to Vltavská station and then walk for about 10 minutes up the hill (you’ll work out a bit before all the food, so it’s not a bad idea!). Or take tram 1, 12, 25, 26 or 8 directly to stop Kamenická. The bistro is right opposite the tram stop.
