Urban Adventures. Quite simply, the Best. Day. Ever.
We asked Kestas, our local guy in Vilnius what his recommendations were for the top 5 things to do in Vilnius. Some of these might not be the most conventional Vilnius tips you’ve ever seen, but we like to keep you on your toes…
5. Shop at Akropolis
If you’re tired of all of Vilnius’ historical sites, maybe it’s time to experience some leisure and shopping at Akropolis, the king of all shopping centres in Lithuania. Akropolis is packed full of all kinds of things to keep you entertained – bowling, ice skating, a cinema, and a variety of cafes and pubs, serving up everything from local Lithuanian food to Italian and Chinese cuisine.
4. Have the perfect lunch
Feeling hungry? We have two suggestions for the perfect lunch in Vilnius.
If the sun is shining, take some fresh food and a blanket over to the field near the White Bridge. This is a favourite hang out spot among the locals, and you’ll see why once you get there. Bring a book and relax, or if you’re feeling a little more playful, it’s also an excellent spot for a bit of kite flying!
If you would prefer a more comfortable lunch (or this place is even great for dinner, too), try Žemaičių Smuklė, where you will be able to taste some delicious, authentic Lithuanian food.
3. Buy some goodies at Halės Market
Experience some Vilnius market spirit at Halės Turgus, or Halės Market, one of the oldest and largest markets in the city. The best time to shop here is just before lunch, and it’s the perfect place to taste your way through Lithuanian culture with all kinds of fresh produce such as meats, breads, and cheeses.
2. Take in the view of Vilnius at the Belfry of St. John’s Church
Be amazed with a spectacular panorama of Vilnius as seen from the Belfry of St. John’s Church. This is one of the most breathtaking spots to look out over the Old Town and modern districts of Vilnius. From here you can make out all the magnificent landmarks and buildings, such as Vilnius Cathedral, President’s House, Vilnius University, and many more directly below you. Be sure to take some snapshots from above!
1. Visit the spectacular Bernardine
Situated in the heart of Vilnius, the Gothic-style Bernardine Church is most definitely a Vilnius must-visit. Compiled of a complex of beautiful buildings, head to Bernardine for a relaxing stroll and soak up the ethereal energy around you.
