La Alpargata Vegana is right in the heart of one of our favourite markets, the Mercado de San Idelfonso, where a plethora of food stands are each as good as the next. Vegan travellers should sit down at La Alpargata Vegana and try delicious Spanish tortilla, croquettes or salmorejo soup, whilst soaking up the vibrant market atmosphere.

La Encomienda changes its menu regularly to cater to the seasons. Not only is everything on the menu vegan, the majority of the food served here is also gluten free! The staff are incredibly friendly and very understanding of non-vegans too, as they were when my mother and I visited and she was not sure what to order. Right on the border between La Latina and Lavapies, La Encomienda is located on a pretty little street, tucked away from the noisy hustle and bustle of both neighborhoods. It’s the perfect little spot to stop at before heading to some of the fun, neighbouring bars!
