David was the perfect guide for what we wanted. We found him to be extremely interesting and we e joyed hearing His background and his lived experience of the old city. Perfect ! We will definitely recommend him to friends and family. Thank you, for a unique insight and for the interesting discussion.
Our guide showed us remote areas of the Old Town and we were able to visit a private Indian refuge. He knew a lot of people personally and could answer a lot of cultural questions. We had a great day! And the food was very good. We could even take a look at how some of it was made. Definitely recommended.
The tour was very interesting and my guide, Maro was lovely. She had a board of photos and apparently has a collection of costumes she made regarding the history of costume in Israel. I think it would be excellent if she could make a presentation to show this to people on the tour. The photos do not really do her knowledge justice and it seems a waste when she did so much research.
1. The driver needs to be better briefed on the meeting point in Hebron - we drove around for a long time, asking a lot of people for directions before we found out guide.
2. We didn't have lunch with a local family as stated - we went to their house to have lunch but here was no interaction (they weren't even in the same room as us). It would have been good to have had that chance for interaction. At the end of lunch we were given the opportunity to buy some 'local' handicrafts, some of which had 'made in China' stickers on them.
3. Our guide was fantastic and very passionate, but not always clear on what we were doing next. For example, we were taken to the factory where they make scarves previously worn by Yasser Arafat. However, we were told that it would be better to wait to buy something until the guide took us to a women's co-operative later. This never happened (we were only shown some things at lunch as stated above). If I had of known, I would have purchased a scarf at the factory.
