Oh, Rio. How we adore thee. If you haven’t caught the Rio de Janeiro bug yet, you need to tour Rio with Urban Adventures to discover what it is that draws travellers into this Brazilian gem time and time again. Plus, when you explore this city with a local, you’ll see it from a fresh perspective away from the tourist traps - huge bonus!
Note that recent government warnings from the US, UK, Canada and Australia have advised against visiting Rio's favelas. We have adjusted all our tour itineraries in light of these warnings, to respect your safety and ensure you can still have the best adventure in Rio! Be aware that many tour operators continue to run favela tours against government advice; we do not recommend this. As well, you should note that tours that take you into unsafe areas may compromise your travel insurance. All our Rio tours follow current international guidelines to give you the safest Best. Day. Ever.
Want to create your own customised Best. Day. Ever? Something totally unique and special and tailored just for you and your friends and family? Well, you're in luck - we offer bespoke tours too! This was my second day with Lola so I already knew I had an excellent guide. There was one other guest on the tour and the 3 of us had a lovely, fun day. Whilst the Urban Adventure tours take you to the main sightseeing spots, the fact that they also take you wandering around the areas where the local go makes it particularly interesting. I did this tour on a Sunday, so we were able to see Cariocas at leisure. I really enjoyed wandering around the Olympic Boulevard area and along the water’s edge in Urca where lots of people were enjoying their day off with their family and friends - and joining in! And Lola took us to all the best spots for the views from Sugarloaf.
The small group enabled easy conversations through which Lola filled in general information about Rio and the people who live there. She was also really helpful giving me information and advice about getting to somewhere I was going the following day.
I really enjoyed the day and very much appreciated having Lola as a guide.

I did this tour about an hour after I arrived in Rio and was a bit anxious because I knew this was going to be just me and the guide and wasn’t sure how comfortable that would be. I really needn’t have worried, I had a lovely afternoon with Renata and a fabulous introduction to Rio. I felt I was being shown around by a friend. The tour takes you to outlets which sell stuff made in Brazil, interesting quirky places that I enjoyed visiting whether or not I wanted to buy anything. And along the way I got to ride on the Metro and to wander around Santa Teresa and see the fabulous street art. What’s not to like?! And as for my concerns about being on my own with a guide, it was an added bonus to be to chat one to one with Renata; what better way to learn about Rio and its culture than a real conversation with a local?
Because it was a public holiday the market area was closed and Renata was cautious about safety as we visited a particular shop in that area that was staying open for us. This was the first stop and at the time I felt a little surprised the tour had been scheduled for a public holiday. By the end of the tour I was very glad it had because it was the only time I could do it and I certainly wouldn’t have missed it.
I’d highly recommend this tour and Renata as a guide and companion.

I had a great day with Lola who was a fantastic guide. In the morning we were a group of 6 and Lola did a great job of looking after everyone. I had a lovely time wandering around Santa Theresa, taking photos of the street art, sampling the cheese bread balls at a local bakery (in a different league to the ones I'd been eating from hotel breakfast buffets, nice as those were), not to mention the tram ride. In the afternoon it was just me and Lola - no other bookings so a personal tour. From a customer perspective its great to know that the tours will run even with just one person and Lola was a good companion, I had a lovely afternoon with her. She took me around some of her favourite snack spots around Copacabana sharing some local treats before going up to see Christ the Redeemer - and the views! And Lola made sure of getting some good photos of me and the statue, something which is not easy to do given the limited space and the number of people up there. A good day with a great guide.
