Need a quickie intro to the city? Toss aside your guidebook and instead get the Havana scoop straight from those who know it best: the locals who live here! This introductory city tour will give you an overview of Havana plus handy info for your visit, straight from the mouths of locals – so if you want to make the most of your time in town, make this the first thing you do!

Join us for an orientation tour starting at La Gargola guesthouse in Old Havana (across from the ‘fort-like’ police headquarters). From there, we’ll take a short wander around the area of Old Havana and the streets surrounding the dominating police headquarters, an area famous among locals for its small craft stores, arts cafés, and proximity to the long sea wall. We will pass by the five corners (where five streets meet) and some lovely old iconic hotels built in heritage-listed buildings.

Time permitting, we may wander from Old Havana toward the Malecon (sea wall), where locals like to sit and chat. Along the way, we’ll point out a few good spots to eat and drink, and you’ll see the great architecture and beautiful old buildings that define this neighbourhood.

Finally we will visit a local bar where we can try some very typical Cuban drinks (mojitos and daiquiris, anyone?!) and, if you are hungry, you can try some very popular typical local plates like fried chicken or the famous Cuban sandwich (food and drinks are at your own expense but your local friend can give you some recommendations and tips on how to order). We’ll settle in here and you’ll be free to chat with new friends, make some plans together for later on, and ask any questions you like of our knowledgeable Havana expert.

Think of it as a city introduction tour, travellers’ meet-up, and info desk all rolled into one — get the tips you need to know from those who are in-the-know, then kick back and relax with some new friends in a new city. There’s no better way to tap into local life in Havana.

Your trip:

As this is a meet-and-greet with other travellers and not a standard tour, the size of the group may be more than our typical Urban Adventures limit of 12 people.

If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides a tip — though not compulsory — is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this tour.
