Ready for a real food experience in Marrakech? Let’s eat!
We kick off this Marrakech medina walking food tour at the beautiful and legendary Djemaa El‑Fna square, a place that has been the heart of trading, bargaining, eating, and social life for centuries. After a short introduction from your guide, you’ll immediately feel the energy, history, and culture of the city as we head into the narrow streets branching off from the square.
Wandering through the surrounding souks, we’ll stop at small, local shops to taste different varieties of olives and sample traditional Moroccan pastries, giving you a glimpse into everyday local flavours. Along the way, you’ll see how locals shop and bargain as we pass through market areas, including sections where poultry and meat are traded, offering a fascinating insight into daily life in the medina.
As we continue through the souks, your guide will point out traditional Moroccan breads and explain how food has played an important role in local culture and survival through history. You’ll also get the chance to enjoy a comforting bowl of harira (the classic Moroccan soup), served with dates and chebakia, a combination deeply rooted in local culinary tradition.
Later, we’ll pause to enjoy a sweet local treat — sfenj (Moroccan fried doughnuts) or msemen (flaky Moroccan pancake) — served with refreshing Moroccan mint tea, just like locals do.
We end the experience back in Djemaa El‑Fna, where the square truly comes alive. Surrounded by food stalls, performers, and the unforgettable atmosphere of this World Heritage‑listed square, you’ll sit down to enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, choosing between tangia or a vegetable tagine for vegetarians. With the buzz of the square all around you, it’s an unforgettable way to round off the evening.
"We’re pretty sure this is an experience that will stay with you long after the last bite."
