Culture shock rating
Worried we’re going to shock your senses? Relax! We believe part of the fun of travel is immersing yourself in the destination and its culture, meeting the people, and learning what makes the place tick. We’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The cultural shock rating ranks how different the experience is from most Western cultures. But no matter the level, don’t worry, you’ll have a local, in-the-know guide with you every step of the way.
Low
Consider these tours your 101 intro to a place. Transportation might be private or a very comfortable public option, and the activities are usually visits to iconic sites and locations that are familiar to most Western cultures – but that will still give you fantastic insight into a destination.
Medium
Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether that’s on a packed public bus or in a local market off the tourist trail. There might be a few language barriers or unfamiliar cultural customs, and you’ll get an experience different from what you're used to at home.
High
You're out there in the global community! We’re going to take you down streets you’d rarely explore on your own, introduce you to local customs and languages, and take you for a ride in whatever transport is available. Get ready to take it as it comes, whatever comes. There might be a shock, but oh man, it’s worth it.
Physical rating
Worried our tours are too tough? Relax! From leisurely strolls to muscle-burning treks, we’ve got a wide range of tours with something for everybody. The physical grading gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour.
Low
Slow and steady is all you need here. These tours have very limited physical activity, such as walking relatively flat streets, sites, or markets, and climbing in and out of the transport provided.
Medium
Not too hard, not too soft, these tours are just right! You can expect a bit of physical activity, but nothing overly challenging – perhaps walking up and down hills, riding a bike for up to 30 kilometers along mostly flat terrain, or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.
High
Get ready for a workout! These tours are our most challenging and involve intense walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, or bike riding. You could be making steep climbs by foot or pedal, or working your core in the water. We recommend you have a good level of fitness to join this tour.

Bangkok’s old town may be tourist central, but there’s way more than just bad pad Thai to be found — that is, if you know where to look. That’s because hidden among the overpriced restaurants and mediocre food carts are secret gems that locals love, and many of these spots have been around for decades — since way before backpackers started gathering on Khao San Road.
Let us take you on the ultimate local tour that’ll make all your foodie dreams come too. This private Bangkok food tour will lead you to some of the best hidden restaurants and street food stalls in the city’s Bang Lamphu and Ban Phan Thom districts. Our local, food-obsessed guides will share with you their handpicked all-time favourite places. We’ll introduce you to the places that only locals know about, tucked down back alleys, in quiet corners, and even hiding in plain sight, invisible to most tourists who walk past!
Every tour is a little different as each guide has their own preferences, but if you are looking for something in particular that you want to taste, then be sure to let your guide know and they will try to find something amazing for you along the route. The time of the day can also determine what is (or isn’t) available, but we can easily take you out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
You could learn where to get the cheapest green curry in Bangkok, or where to find an ancient Thai dessert that’s rarely seen on restaurant menus (and that even some locals have never tasted!). Or you could meet the family that has been making roti for over half a century, or a woman who quit her job at a 5-star hotel to run a curry shop down a back alley. If you’re feeling brave, maybe take a bite of a century egg (we swear it tastes better than it looks!) or try the authentic Isan-style version of papaya salad with fermented fish sauce. Or maybe even sample a soup made with Kariang peppers — some of the hottest peppers you’ll find in Thailand.
Some of our guides’ favourites that might be on your tour include:
- Mixed fruit salad from the best tom pollamai stall in town
- Southern-style curries from a beloved restaurant hidden in an alleyway
- A taste of kanom jeen (fermented noodles that you’ll never find in a tourist restaurant)
- Pork noodle soup made with some of the spiciest peppers in Thailand
- The best tom yum in Bangkok from a tiny restaurant that’s always packed with locals
- Isan-style northern dishes like papaya salad and mushroom soup
- Thai-Muslim dishes like oxtail soup and curry, from a hidden restaurant that’s been on Thai television
- Dessert of roti sai mai (roti with spun sugar) from a 60-year-old shop hidden in plain view
Note that this tour changes daily depending on what shops are open and what culinary stories your guide will tell — but no matter what, you’ll walk away from the day stuffed with delicious Thai food!
Note: This tour is priced for a minimum group size of two travellers. A solo traveller may still book this private experience but will be charged the base rate for two travellers.
