More information

Hop in our all-electric Red Roadster and get ready for a Pride ride. Join a local guide to explore DC's most bustling area and learn about the connection between LGBTQIA+ history and the nation's capital. Washington DC has played a crucial role in shaping policy, activism and visibility for the LGBTQIA+ community, and as you cruise around the National Mall, you'll learn about the progress that has been made and the work that still needs to be done. The National Mall has hosted numerous rallies, marches and demonstrations advocating for equal rights and has been the setting of some of the most significant moments in LGBTQIA+ history. You'll hear about one of the earliest known gay rights protests, the 1965 pickets outside the White House, Pentagon and State Department, led by the Mattachine Society, an early national gay rights organization. Ride past The US Capitol and the Supreme Court, both of which have played critical roles in advancing LGBTQIA+ legislation. You'll hear about the extensive collection of LGBTQIA+ archives at the Library of Congress and check out The National Gallery, which features works by several prominent queer artists, like Andy Warhol. Your guide will point out the National Museum of the American Indian, where you can learn about the Two-Spirit identities that have long been recognized in many Indigenous cultures in North America and shed light on gender and sexual diversity. As you continue along the picturesque Tidal Basin, you'll see iconic landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, which pay homage to the perpetual quest for civil rights. Today, the National Mall remains a shared gathering place for vigils, advocacy efforts and Pride events, so make sure to ask your guide about ways you can get involved when your tour is over.
