Uncommon Day Trips

Led by a local guide, you’ll travel with a small group through lesser-known neighbourhoods. In just a few hours, you’ll see a different side of the city – one that backs small businesses and spreads visitors beyond the centre.

Day trips that show you more

It’s no secret that some of Europe’s most loved cities are being pushed to their limits. With overtourism never far from the headlines, it’s fair to ask: should I visit or will I be part of the problem?

That’s where our new Uncommon Day Trips come in. Designed by local teams in Barcelona, Paris and Venice, these day tours step away from the hotspots and into the real stuff – a community garden in Barcelona, a chocolate workshop in Venice and a neighbourhood bakery in Paris - promoting meaningful cultural exchange and responsible visitation.

Uncommon Venice

Walk around a market that dates back to the Middle Ages and then learn about the city’s long relationship with cacao in a chocolate workshop. Local leader Camilla Feiffer, who grew up in Venice and helped develop the tour, puts it simply: ‘Authentic Venice still exists, but you need to go a bit deeper and be willing to look beyond the most crowded spots.’

Uncommon Paris

Head to the peaceful parks away from the crowds, pick up a croissant in a neighbourhood bakery and see the Eiffel Tower from a different perspective. Paris-based leader Benoit Collas explains that the trip offers a 'real local feel, which is charming and historic and far from the crowds below.'

Uncommon Barcelona

Visit a community garden – a respite from the changes reshaping the Old Town. You’ll still see the Sagrada Familia, just from a different angle to most and explore some of the city's lesser-known neighbourhoods. Intrepid Operations Manager Juan Sanchez, who helped design the tour said: "I believe the best thing we can do is start taking small but meaningful actions'. 'These trips help to redistribute tourism dollars to local areas and show travellers that there are other ways to explore the city.”
